What's new

New features and changes will be listed here as they ship.

0.9.15 beta 30 September 2026

Faster FTP, and a font for every view

Added

  • FTP copies, moves and deletes each get a connection of their own, so browsing stays quick while files transfer, and several transfers run side by side. A new Maximum connections setting on each FTP connection decides how many (4 by default; set it to 1 for a server that allows only one).
  • Separate fonts for each kind of view, in Preferences. The viewer has one for text and the data grid (Consolas by default, so columns line up) and one for rendered Markdown, and the editor has its own font and size. Each can still be changed per window from the Format menu.

Changed

  • FTP transfers stream straight through, so a large file no longer has to fit in memory, and a copy from FTP starts at once instead of counting everything first.
  • An FTP upload the server could not store, for example because its disk is full, or a download that arrived incomplete, is now reported as an error rather than looking like it worked.
  • Playing a video or song from FTP or a cloud drive shows how far the copy to a temporary local file has got, can be cancelled, and stops by itself when you move on to another file.
  • Text in the About box and the REST client follows the application font size instead of staying at a fixed size.
  • The End User Licence Agreement, Terms of Service and Privacy Policy were updated.

Fixed

  • Opening a file from FTP or a cloud drive in the viewer no longer freezes the window while it downloads.
  • An FTP panel could show an error when it connected while RFCommand was checking the folder for changes.
  • Switching layouts, or cancelling Preferences after trying a different font, could leave the wrong application font on screen or save it into a layout.
0.9.14 beta 30 September 2026

First public beta

RFCommand is out on the Microsoft Store as a free public beta. Everything described on this site is in this build. It is a beta because the problems we are looking for now are the ones that only turn up on other computers, with other files and against other servers, so if something goes wrong, please tell us.

In this release

  • Two panels side by side, with tabs, so source and target are always on screen together.
  • Local drives, Windows network shares, and FTP and FTPS servers.
  • OneDrive, Google Drive and Dropbox, browsed and changed like any other folder.
  • SQLite, SQL Server, MySQL and PostgreSQL databases, where tables are folders and rows are files.
  • Archives opened as folders: zip, 7z, tar, tgz and tbz2 read and written, rar, ace, arj and arc browsed. Encrypted zip creation with AES-256, AES-128 or ZipCrypto.
  • Disk images browsed read-only: iso, vhd, vhdx, vmdk, vdi and xva.
  • A viewer with five modes (text, markdown, grid, image and media), tail mode and printing.
  • Multi Rename (Ctrl+M), with photo and music tag variables, and a REST client (Alt+F8).
  • Named layouts (Ctrl+Alt+L) that remember both panels, their tabs and the look of the window.
  • 47 rebindable actions, light and dark themes with 24 accents, and five languages.

Want it to do something it does not?

Feature requests go in the issue tracker, same as bug reports. Putting one there gives it a number you can follow, so you can see when it is picked up rather than wondering whether it was read. Have a look through what is already open first, in case someone has asked for it and you can add what you would want from it.
